Angus Reid Global Monitor : Polls & Research
Tough Last Year Continues for Bush in U.S.
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - George W. Bush maintains a paltry approval rating in the United States, according to a review of two recent public opinion polls. In a survey by Hart/McInturff released by the Wall Street Journal and NBC News, 32 per cent of respondents approve of their president’s performance.
Bush’s rating stands at 30 per cent in a study by Princeton Survey Research Associates released by Newsweek.
Bush—a Republican—earned a second four-year term in the November 2004 presidential election. The U.S. president’s approval rating has not surpassed the 40 per cent mark in a national survey since December 2006.
On Mar. 15, in his weekly radio address, Bush discussed the housing crisis, saying, "Some in Washington say the government should take action to artificially prop up home prices. It’s important to understand that this would hurt millions of Americans. For example, many young couples trying to buy their first home have been priced out of the market because of inflated prices. The market now is in the process of correcting itself, and delaying that correction would only prolong the problem."
