Tory Hopefuls Unknown To Most Canadians
(CPOD) Jan. 28, 2004 - Many Canadians are unaware of the candidates currently running for the leadership of the Conservative Party, according to a poll by Ipsos-Reid released by CTV and the Globe and Mail. More than half of all respondents do not know enough about the three prospective leaders to form an opinion.
Former Canadian Alliance leader Stephen Harper has a positive rating of 23 per cent, but 55 per cent of respondents opted not to offer their impressions. Canadians are even less acquainted with CEO of Magna International Belinda Stronach and former Ontario health minister Tony Clement.
The Conservative Party --formed after the union of the Progressive Conservatives and the Canadian Alliance-- will choose its federal leader on Mar. 20.
