Toledo’s Rating Improves in Peru
(CPOD) Jul. 9, 2003 - Alejandro Toledo is slowly bouncing back from low ratings in Peru, according to a poll by Apoyo. 13 per cent of respondents approve of the president's performance.
After weeks of criticism, Toledo finally agreed to overhaul his cabinet, naming lawyer Beatriz Merino as prime minister. The president also agreed to reduce his salary by 30 per cent.
Toledo, who had been losing public support over negotiations with striking teachers, must now also deal with the resurgence of armed group Shining Path.
