Taiwan Government Praised For Environmental Efforts
(CPOD) Aug. 4, 2003 - Most Taiwanese citizens support their government, according to a poll by the Cabinet's Research, Development and Evaluation Commission. 45 per cent of respondents are satisfied with their current administration.
The government's performance in environmental protection is seen favorably by 76 per cent of respondents. A law introduced this year bans the distribution of plastic bags in supermarkets, and disposable cutlery in restaurants. The government is also responsible for new regulations regarding water pollution.
Conversely, the administration's education reform is condemned by 68.2 per cent of respondents. High tuition fees and a new system for university admission have not been popular among the public.
