Swedes Skeptical About Euro, Dane Support Steady

(CPOD) Mar. 26, 2003 - Residents of Sweden remain skeptical about adopting the Euro, while support for the common European currency seems to be steady in Denmark, according to a poll conducted by Danske Bank. In Sweden, where a national referendum on whether to join the Euro will take place on Sept. 14, 24 per cent of respondents stated that they would definitely vote "Yes," while 30 per cent said they would definitely vote "No."

In Denmark, which has not decided to hold a referendum on the issue, 55 per cent of respondents said they would definitely vote "Yes," while 28 per cent would definitely vote "No."

The Euro has been used in 12 of the 15 European Union (EU) countries since Jan. 1, 2002. Sweden, Denmark, and Britain are the only current EU members that have not adopted the currency.
