Swede Voters Will Refuse Euro

August 18, 2003

Will this bill be used in Sweden?

(CPOD) Aug. 18, 2003 - Euro advocates appear to be losing support in Sweden, according to a poll by Temo published in Dagens Nyheter. 49 per cent of respondents will vote to keep the Krona as the national currency.

Sweden will hold a plebiscite on Sept. 14, to gauge public opinion on whether or not to adopt the Euro, which has been used in 12 of the 15 European Union (EU) countries since Jan. 1, 2002. Sweden, Denmark and Great Britain are the only current EU members that have not adopted the currency.

The socialist Left Party is leading the "No" side. Members have resorted to a door-to-door effort to get their message across.
