Steady Approval For Bush In U.S.

(Angus Reid - CPOD Global Scan) - George W. Bush begins his second term in office with stable support, according to a poll by American Research Group. 51 per cent of respondents approve of the president's performance.

Yesterday, Bush was officially sworn in as president at a ceremony in Washington. The American head of state vowed to pursue "the great objective of ending tyranny," and said the U.S. "has accepted obligations that are difficult to fulfill and would be dishonourable to abandon."

In American elections, candidates require 270 votes in the Electoral College to win the White House. On Nov. 2, Bush earned a fresh term after securing 286 electoral votes from 31 states. 44 per cent of respondents approve of the way the president is handling the economy.
