SC Primary 2008 (D): Obama 35%, Hillary 34%
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Two candidates are almost tied in the race for the Democratic Party’s United States presidential nomination in the Palmetto State, according to a poll by CBS News. 35 per cent of respondents in South Carolina would vote for Illinois senator Barack Obama in next month’s primary, while 34 per cent would back New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Former North Carolina senator John Edwards is third with 13 per cent, followed by three contenders—Delaware senator Joe Biden, New Mexico governor Bill Richardson and Ohio congressman Dennis Kucinich—with one per cent.
In a study by Rasmussen Reports, Rodham Clinton and Obama are tied with 33 per cent, followed by Edwards with 17 per cent. The remaining contenders are in single digits.
The Democratic presidential primary in South Carolina is scheduled for Jan. 29, 2008.
