Russians Back New Prime Minister
(CPOD) Mar. 22, 2004 - Many Russians are satisfied with the country's new prime minister, according to a poll by Russian Public Opinion & Market Research. 48 per cent of respondents approve of Mikhail Fradkov.
On Mar. 1, president Vladimir Putin named Fradkov as prime minister. The 53-year-old politician worked previously as minister of foreign economic relations and minister of trade. The State Duma ratified the appointment on Mar. 5.
Putin earned a new four-year term as Russia's president on Mar. 14, garnering 71.2 per cent of all cast ballots. The 52-year-old Putin is constitutionally barred from governing beyond 2008.
