(CPOD) Feb. 27, 2004 - Vladimir Putin is headed for a new term in Russia, according to a poll by the Public Opinion Foundation. 69.3 per cent of respondents would support the current president in the upcoming election.
Putin's closest rival is Nikolai Kharitonov of the Communist Party with 5.4 per cent, followed by Sergei Glazyev of Rodina with 3.5 per cent, Irina Khakamada of the Union of Right Forces with 2.2 per cent, and Oleg Malyshkin of the Liberal Democratic Party with 1.3 per cent. The presidential election is scheduled for Mar. 14.
Yesterday, Khakamada filed a lawsuit in a Moscow court to complain about the "inactivity" of the Central Election Commission. The conservative candidate claims her grievance regarding equal time in state broadcasts for all election contenders was not properly interpreted.
