Palestinians Endorse Prime Minister Post
(CPOD) Apr. 15, 2003 - Palestinians are content with having a prime minister, according to a poll by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research. 64 per cent of respondents endorse the post.
Current prime minister Mahmoud Abbas has faced problems in the last few days, as Palestinian Authority president Yasser Arafat has not agreed with some of his cabinet choices. The controversy revolves around Abbas' decision to be in charge of the interior ministry, instead of Hani al-Hassan, a close Arafat aide.
Palestinians believe the new government will fare well in some issues, such as negotiations on a peace agreement with Israel. But in matters like political reform and security, less than half of all respondents believe Abbas will do a good job.
