Angus Reid Global Monitor : Polls & Research
Only a Third of Americans Content with Bush
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Few adults in the United States are satisfied with their president, according to a review of four recent public opinion polls. In a survey by TNS released by the Washington Post and ABC News, 33 per cent of respondents approve of George W. Bush’s performance.
Bush’s approval rating stands at 32 per cent in studies by Opinion Research Corporation for CNN and Harris Interactive, and 28 per cent in a poll by the New York Times and CBS News.
Bush—a Republican—earned a second four-year term in the November 2004 presidential election. The U.S. president’s approval rating has not surpassed the 40 per cent mark in a national survey since December 2006.
On Dec. 14, Bush discussed his administration’s dealings with Congress, saying, "I want to thank the Senate and congratulate the Senate for passing a good energy bill—and now the House must act. Congress also must move quickly to pass legislation to protect middle class families from the burden of the Alternative Minimum Tax—without raising taxes. And Congress must pass legislation to ensure our intelligence professionals can continue to effectively monitor terrorist communications. (...) And they must ensure that our troops on the front lines have the funds and resources they need to prevail."
