Angus Reid Global Monitor : Polls & Research
Only 29% of Americans Satisfied with Bush
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Public support for George W. Bush remains low in the United States, according to three recent public opinion polls. In a survey by TNS released by the Washington Post and ABC News, 29 per cent of respondents approve of the U.S. president’s performance.
Bush’s rating also stands at 29 per cent in both a study by Opinion Dynamics for Fox News, and a poll by Ipsos-Public Affairs released by the Associated Press.
Bush—a Republican—earned a second four-year term in the November 2004 presidential election. The U.S. president’s approval rating has not surpassed the 40 per cent mark in a national survey since December 2006.
In his Jun. 21 radio address, Bush discussed rising gas prices, saying, "The fundamental problem behind high gas prices is that the supply of oil has not kept up with the rising demand across the world. One obvious solution is for America to increase our domestic oil production. So my administration has repeatedly called on Congress to open access to new oil exploration here in the United States. Unfortunately, Democrats on Capitol Hill have rejected virtually every proposal. Now Americans are paying the price at the pump for this obstruction."
