Abstract: (CPOD) Nov. 21, 2004 - George W. Bush's approval rating has not significantly improved in the United States since his re-election, according to a poll by Harris Interactive. 50 per cent of respondents have a positive opinion of the president, a one per cent drop since October.

(CPOD) Nov. 21, 2004 - George W. Bush's approval rating has not significantly improved in the United States since his re-election, according to a poll by Harris Interactive. 50 per cent of respondents have a positive opinion of the president, a one per cent drop since October.

In American elections, candidates require 270 votes in the Electoral College to win the White House. Earlier this month, Republican incumbent Bush earned a second term after securing 286 electoral votes from 31 states.

Since his re-election, Bush has made several cabinet changes. Earlier this month, the president nominated White House counsel Alberto Gonzales to take over from John Ashcroft as the country's attorney general. Bush also tapped national security advisor Condoleezza Rice as state secretary after the resignation of Colin Powell.

The Senate must confirm the president's nominations. Bush will be sworn in for his second four-year term on Jan. 20, 2005.
