NV Caucus 2008 (R): Romney 29%, Huckabee 23%

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Mitt Romney is the top United States presidential contender for Republican Party supporters in the Silver State, according to a poll by American Research Group. 29 per cent of respondents in Nevada would back the former Massachusetts governor in next year’s caucus.

Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee is second with 23 per cent, followed by former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani with 17 per cent, Arizona senator John McCain with seven per cent, actor and former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson with five per cent, California congressman Duncan Hunter with four per cent, Texas congressman Ron Paul with three per cent, and Colorado congressman Tom Tancredo with one per cent.

In a survey by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc. released by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Giuliani is first with 25 per cent, followed by Romney with 20 per cent, and Huckabee with 17 per cent. The remaining contenders are in single digits.

In 2004, incumbent president George W. Bush won the Republican caucus unopposed.

The Republican presidential caucus in Nevada is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 19, 2008.
