Move To Euro Uncertain In Sweden
Will this bill be used in Sweden?
(CPOD) Apr. 25, 2003 - Swedes are split over the Euro, according to a poll by Danske Bank. 48 per cent of respondents welcome the common European currency, while 49 per cent reject it.
Sweden will hold a referendum on Sept. 14 on whether or not to adopt the European currency. The Euro has been used in 12 of the 15 European Union (EU) countries since Jan. 1, 2002. Sweden, Denmark and Britain are the only current EU members that have not adopted the currency.
The actual wording of the referendum was debated for several weeks. Supporters of the "Yes" favoured a short question, while organizers for the "No" side wanted the inclusion of the words "abandoning the Krona" in the document.
The final text of the referendum will be: "Do you think that Sweden should introduce the Euro as its currency?"
