More Sympathy For Homosexuals In U.S.

(CPOD) Apr. 13, 2004 - Americans have more tolerance towards homosexuals, according to a poll by the Los Angeles Times. 60 per cent of respondents are "sympathetic" to the gay community, a 30 per cent increase since Sept. 1983.

Marriage certificates have been issued to same-sex couples in the states of California, Oregon, New Mexico and New York, while civil unions are available in the state of Vermont. 24 per cent of respondents favour same-sex marriage, while 38 per cent support civil unions.

Support is lower in the issue of raising children. 52 per cent of respondents oppose adoption by gay couples.
