McCain, Obama Hold Leads in Wisconsin
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Voting intention surveys conducted in the Badger State place Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama as the favourite contenders in this month’s United States presidential primaries.
In two polls of Republican Party voters in Wisconsin, the Arizona senator is in first place with the support of at least 45 per cent of respondents. Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee is second on both surveys with a high of 32 per cent, while Texas congressman Ron Paul cannot reach double digits.
Among Democratic Party voters, the Illinois senator is ahead in all three studies, with the support of at least 45 per cent of respondents. New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is second, with a high of 42 per cent.
After the first 33 Republican presidential caucuses and primaries have been held, McCain has secured the support of 830 pledged delegates and unpledged members of the Republican National Committee (RNC), followed by Huckabee with 217, and Paul with 16.
After the first 32 Democratic presidential caucuses and primaries have been held, Obama has secured the support of 1,259 pledged delegates and super-delegates, followed by Rodham Clinton with 1,212.
The Wisconsin primaries are scheduled for Feb. 19.
