McCain Leads Both Democrats in Alaska

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Voters in Alaska prefer Republican John McCain over two Democratic challengers, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. At least 48 per cent of respondents in would support the Arizona senator in head-to-head United States presidential contests against two prospective rivals.

McCain holds a five-point lead over Illinois senator Barack Obama, and a 25-point advantage over New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

In 2004, Republican George W. Bush won Alaska’s three electoral votes, with 62 per cent of the vote. No Democrat has carried the state since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964.

Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The U.S. presidential election is scheduled for Nov. 4.
