Massachusetts Supports Gay Marriage

(CPOD) Nov. 25, 2003 - Adults in Massachusetts are supportive of wedlock for gay and lesbian partners, according to a poll by the Boston Herald. 49 per cent of respondents back the legalization of same-sex marriage, while 38 per cent oppose it.
On Nov. 18, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled that the state's constitution must offer same-sex couples the possibility of getting married. In the United States, legal status to gay and lesbian partners is offered --in the form of a civil union-- only in the state of Vermont.
The U.S. Supreme Court overturned Texas' sodomy law earlier this year, in what was considered a major victory for gay rights advocates.
