Maryland Favours McCain, Obama in Primary

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Voting intention surveys conducted in Maryland suggest that Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama will earn the highest number of votes in today’s United States presidential primaries.

In three polls of Republican Party voters in the Old Line State, the Arizona senator is in first place with the support of at least 52 per cent of respondents. Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee is second with a high of 26 per cent, while Texas congressman Ron Paul reaches  10 per cent in two studies.

Among Democratic Party voters, the Illinois senator is ahead in all three surveys, with the support of more than half of respondents. New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is second, with a high of 35 per cent.

After the first 30 Republican presidential caucuses and primaries have been held, McCain has secured the support of 723 pledged delegates and unpledged members of the Republican National Committee (RNC), followed by Huckabee with 217 , and Paul with 16.

After the first 29 Democratic presidential caucuses and primaries have been held, Rodham Clinton has secured the support of 1,148 pledged delegates and super-delegates, followed by Obama with 1,121.
