Martin Favourite PM In Atlantic Canada
(CPOD) May 10, 2004 - Paul Martin if the preferred choice for Canada's top political job in the country's Atlantic provinces, according to a poll by Omnifacts Bristol Research. 40 per cent of respondents in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island believe the Liberal party leader would make the best prime minister.
Martin took over as Canada's prime minister on Dec. 12, 2003. Although Martin does not have to hold a federal vote until November 2005, there is growing speculation about an election call later this year. Two dates theoretically being considered for the ballot are Jun. 14 and Jun. 28.
Support is lower for two opposition politicians. 18 per cent of respondents believe Conservative party leader Stephen Harper would be the best head of government, while 11 per cent feel the same way about Jack Layton of the New Democratic Party.
