Lula Best-Rated Brazilian President

(CPOD) Jul. 3, 2003 - Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva continues to enjoy a high approval rating in Brazil, according to a poll by Datafolha. Only 11 per cent of respondents say Lula's performance has been bad.

Lula's positive rating of 42 per cent after six months in office—in a survey that considers three possible answers—is the highest among the last four Brazilian presidents.

Lula recently urged fellow South American leaders to merge the continent's two largest trading partnerships, to boost integration towards the proposed Free Trade Area of the Americas.
