Kerry, Dean Top Democrats In New Hampshire

(CPOD) Jun. 11, 2003 - Massachusetts senator John Kerry and former Vermont governor Howard Dean are the top choices for Democratic supporters in New Hampshire, according to a poll by Zogby America. 25 per cent of respondents would vote for Kerry in the presidential primary, while 22 per cent would back Dean.

Connecticut senator Joe Lieberman is third with 10 per cent, while Missouri congressman Dick Gephardt has seven per cent. The remaining presidential hopefuls are below three per cent. The New Hampshire presidential primary will take place on Jan. 27, 2004, a week after the first caucus in Iowa.

New Hampshire's four electoral votes went to George W. Bush in 2000, who defeated Democrat Al Gore by just over 7,000 ballots. The state has backed the eventual president in every election since 1980.
