Israelis Would Leave Settlements If Compensated

July 25, 2003

(CPOD) Jul. 25, 2003 - Residents of Israeli settlements would cede their land for a Palestinian state after retribution, according to a poll by Hoppe Research Company for Peace Now. 74 per cent of respondents say they would agree to leave their current dwellings if properly reimbursed.

An independent Palestine is considered the main provision of the road map for peace, developed by the United States, the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU) and Russia.

Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon has vowed to dismantle some of the 145 settlements built on land that might become an independent Palestinian state. If such a decision takes place, 54 per cent of respondents would oppose it within the boundaries of law.
