Israelis Review Attack On Rantisi
(CPOD) Jun. 12, 2003 - Many Israelis back their government's decision to launch a helicopter strike against the spokesman of Hamas, according to a poll published in Maariv. 56 per cent of respondents agree with the timing of the attack against Abdel Aziz Rantisi.
The escalation in violence began on Jun. 8, when Palestinian groups killed five Israeli soldiers in a joint operation. Two days later, Israeli helicopters launched a deadly missile attack aimed at Rantisi. Yesterday, at least 17 people were killed in a suicide bombing attributed to Hamas.
The Israeli government has continued to target Hamas members through helicopter attacks, which have resulted in 23 fatalities.
