Illinois Primary: McCain and Obama Dominate
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Voting intention surveys conducted in the Prairie State place John McCain as the clear favourite in today’s United States presidential primary.
In the three polls of Republican Party voters, Arizona senator John McCain garners the backing of at least 43 per cent of respondents, while former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney is second with a high of 34 per cent. Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee cannot reach the 20 per cent mark, and Texas congressman Ron Paul is in single digits.
Among Democratic Party voters, Illinois senator Barack Obama is the obvious frontrunner, with the support of more than half of respondents to all three surveys. New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is behind, with a high of 40 per cent.
