Hillary Strongest For Democrats In 2008

November 26, 2004

(CPOD) Nov. 26, 2004 - Many Democratic Party supporters believe New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is their best presidential hopeful, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 42 per cent of respondents say Rodham Clinton would be the strongest candidate for the 2008 election.

2004 presidential nominee John Kerry is second with 16 per cent, followed by running mate John Edwards, former vice-president and 2000 presidential nominee Al Gore, Indiana senator Evan Bayh, New Mexico governor Bill Richardson and Virginia governor Mark Warner.

In American elections, candidates require 270 votes in the Electoral College to win the White House. Earlier this month, Republican incumbent George W. Bush earned a second term after securing 286 electoral votes from 31 states.

Kerry became the frontrunner for this year's Democratic nomination after winning 31 of the first 34 caucuses or primaries.
