High Marks For Richardson In New Mexico

(CPOD) Sept. 20, 2003 - Bill Richardson is enjoying a high approval rating in New Mexico, according to a poll by research and Polling Inc. released by the Albuquerque Journal. 64 per cent of respondents approve of the governor's performance.
Richardson was elected in November 2002, defeating Republican and fellow Hispanic John Sanchez with 56 per cent of the vote.
The Democratic governor is currently campaigning to pass a constitutional amendment increasing the yearly payout from a permanent state fund. Republican lawmakers have suggested the state could encounter budget problems as a result. New Mexicans will vote on the issue on Sept. 23.
