Germans Mull 9/11 Coverage, Reject Conspiracy
(CPOD) Jul. 27, 2003 - Many residents of Germany believe the press has not been forthcoming in its reports on the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States, according to a poll published in Die Zeit. 68 per cent of respondents say the media has not disclosed everything about the events.
Germany was a center of operation for al-Qaeda in the late 1990s. Mohammed Atta and two other 9/11 hijackers lived in Hamburg as part of an alleged cell. Moroccan student Mounir El Motassadeq has been charged in a German court for transferring money to the hijackers as they prepared the attacks in the U.S.
Most Germans reject conspiracy theories regarding 9/11. Only 19 per cent of respondents believe the U.S. government was involved in the attacks.
