Georgia Primary: GOP Toss-Up, Obama Victory
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Voting intention surveys conducted in the Peach State suggest there is no favourite before today’s United States presidential primary.
In four of the five polls of Republican Party voters, Arizona senator John McCain is in first place, but with a tenuous advantage over former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney. Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee is definitely a factor in Georgia, with at least one-in-four respondents voicing support for him in the final four studies. Texas congressman Ron Paul is fourth, with a high of six per cent.
Among Democratic Party voters, the outcome appears much clearer. Illinois senator Barack Obama is ahead of New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton in the seven published surveys, with support ranging from 47 per cent to 52 per cent.
In all, 21 states will hold Republican primaries or caucuses today, choosing 41 per cent of all delegates. The Democratic primaries or caucuses will be held in 22 states, American Samoa and "Democrats Abroad", choosing 52 per cent of all pledged delegates.
