French Wary Of Le Pen

(CPOD) Dec. 11, 2003 - Controversial politicial Jean-Marie Le Pen is not a popular figure in France, according to a poll by TNS-Sofres released by RTL and Le Monde. 75 per cent of respondents are opposed to the political ideas of the National Front (FN) leader.

A surprise second-place finisher in the 2002 presidential election, Le Pen lost the run-off vote to Jacques Chirac by 64.4 per cent.

Le Pen's political organization --deemed as extreme right-wing-- has been severely criticized for its stance on immigration. 70 per cent of respondents believe the FN represents a threat to democracy.
