France Clearly Wants Obama in White House

November 03, 2008

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Many French adults are rooting for Barack Obama in the United States presidential race, according to a poll by CSA released by VSD. 81 per cent of respondents would prefer the Democratic Party’s nominee to win tomorrow’s election.

Only seven per cent of respondents would like Republican Party nominee John McCain to win, and 12 per cent have no opinion on the matter.

Obama became the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee on Aug. 28, while McCain accepted the Republican Party’s nomination on Sept. 4.

U.S. president George W. Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The U.S. presidential election is scheduled for Nov. 4.

On Oct. 30, an official communiqué from the French embassy in Israel clarified the position of French president Nicolas Sarkozy and Obama on how to deal with Iran. The statement read: "The in-depth discussions between [Sarkozy and Obama] on Iran during their meeting in Paris in July demonstrated a broad convergence of views on this issue. [Both] agree to oppose Iran’s development of a military nuclear capability."
