FL Primary 2008 (R): Giuliani 28%, Tie for Second

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Rudy Giuliani is the most popular 2008 United States presidential hopeful for Republican Party backers in the Sunshine State, according to a poll by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. 28 per cent of respondents in Florida would vote for the former New York City mayor in January’s primary.

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee are tied for second with 15 per cent, followed by Arizona senator John McCain with 10 per cent, actor and former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson with six per cent, Texas congressman Ron Paul with four per cent, and California congressman Duncan Hunter with one per cent.

In a survey by Strategic Vision, Giuliani is first with 25 per cent, followed by Huckabee with 21 per cent, McCain with 15 per cent, Romney with 13 per cent, and Thompson with 10 per cent. The remaining contenders are in single digits.

In 2004, the Republican Florida primary was cancelled, after incumbent George W. Bush was nominated by the state’s party.

The Republican presidential primary in Florida is scheduled for Jan. 29, 2008.
