Edwards Second To Bush In Home State

(CPOD) Apr. 28, 2003 - In his home state of North Carolina, Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards trails behind Republican George W. Bush, according to a poll by Research 2000 published in the Raleigh News & Observer. 58 per cent of respondents would vote for the current American president, while 39 per cent would support senator Edwards.
The perceived success of the campaign in Iraq has boosted Bush's numbers in North Carolina. 64 per cent of respondents have a favourable opinion of Bush, compared to 47 per cent for Edwards.
Edwards is still the first choice for Democrats in the Tar Heel State. 43 per cent of respondents named him as their preferred nominee, well above two other senators, John Kerry of Massachusetts and Joe Lieberman of Connecticut.
