Angus Reid Global Monitor : Polls & Research
Dismal Numbers Continue for Bush in U.S.
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Public backing for George W. Bush remains low in the United States, according to a review of three recent public opinion polls. In a survey by Opinion Dynamics released by Fox News, 30 per cent of respondents approve of their president’s performance.
Bush’s rating stands at 28 per cent in a study by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press, and 24 per cent in a poll by American Research Group.
Bush—a Republican—earned a second four-year term in the November 2004 presidential election. The U.S. president’s approval rating has not surpassed the 40 per cent mark in a national survey since December 2006.
On Mar. 27, Bush discussed the situation in Iraq, saying, "Last year, Iraqi leaders came to us with a request to form a long-term strategic partnership. This partnership would help assure Iraqis that political and economic and security cooperation between our nations will endure. (...) My administration will work to complete this strategic partnership in the coming months. The Iraqi people have chosen to stand with America against our common enemies. And it’s in our interest that we stand with them."
