Democrats Pick Rodham Clinton for 2008 Ballot

Abstract: (Angus Reid Global Scan) - Many supporters of the Democratic Party in the United States would like current New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to run for president in 2008, according to a poll by Gallup released by CNN and USA Today. 42 per cent of respondents would support Rodham Clinton in a primary election.

(Angus Reid Global Scan) - Many supporters of the Democratic Party in the United States would like current New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to run for president in 2008, according to a poll by Gallup released by CNN and USA Today. 42 per cent of respondents would support Rodham Clinton in a primary election.

The two components of the 2004 Democratic ticket—Massachusetts senator John Kerry and former North Carolina senator John Edwards—are tied for second place with 15 per cent, followed by Delaware senator Joe Biden with seven, Virginia governor Mark Warner and New Mexico governor Bill Richardson with three per cent each, and Indiana senator Evan Bayh and Iowa governor Tom Vilsack with one per cent each.

In American elections, candidates require 270 votes in the Electoral College to win the White House. In November 2004, Republican George W. Bush earned a second term after securing 286 electoral votes from 31 states. Kerry received 252 electoral votes from 19 states and the District of Columbia.

Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.
