Canadians Prefer Martin As Prime Minister

(Angus Reid Consultants - CPOD Global Scan) - Paul Martin if the preferred choice for Canada's top political job, according to a poll by SES Research. 34 per cent of respondents believe the Liberal party leader would make the best prime minister.

Martin took over as Canada's prime minister in December 2003. In the June 2004 federal election, the Liberals secured a minority government with 135 seats in the House of Commons.

Support is lower for the leaders of Canada's three main opposition parties. 18 per cent of respondents believe Conservative party leader Stephen Harper would be the best head of government, 12 per cent feel the same way about Jack Layton of the New Democratic Party and seven per cent would choose Giles Duceppe of the Bloc Québécois.
