(CPOD) Jun. 4, 2004 - Residents of California are concerned over elevated fuel costs, according to a poll by Field. 44 per cent of respondents say the recent gasoline price increases have been a very serious problem in their households.

The average cost of a gallon of gas in California is $2.32 U.S., a 31 per cent increment in a year. 77 per cent of respondents believe oil companies are trying to increase their profits, while 14 per cent think the high prices are a result of changes in market conditions.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger vowed not to raise taxes during his tenure, and recently asked all state employees and government officials to conserve energy.
