(CPOD) Aug. 25, 2003 - California voters are warming up to Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante, according to a poll by the Los Angeles Times. 35 per cent of all respondents would support the Democrat in the state's recall election, while 22 per cent would vote for actor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Republican Tom McClintock was next with 12 per cent, followed by former baseball commissioner Peter Ueberroth with 7 per cent. 2002 gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon -who retired from the race last weekend- had 6 per cent.
The recall effort is supported by 50 per cent of respondents. Governor Gray Davis - re-elected just last November - has suffered from low approval ratings as a result of the state's energy crisis and budget deficit. The election will take place on Oct. 7.
