Bush Leads Kerry In Iowa

(CPOD) Sept. 23, 2004 - George W. Bush and Dick Cheney could carry the state of Iowa in the 2004 United States presidential election, according to according to the MSNBC/Knight Ridder poll conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc. 48 per cent of respondents would vote for the Republican incumbents, while 42 per cent would support the Democratic ticket of John Kerry and John Edwards.

Two per cent of respondents would vote for independent candidate Ralph Nader and running mate Peter Camejo, one per cent would support another ticket, and seven per cent remain undecided. The election is scheduled for Nov. 2.

Democrat Al Gore won Iowa's seven electoral votes in the 2000 election, defeating Bush by just over 4,000 ballots. The last Republican to carry the state was Ronald Reagan in 1984.
