(CPOD) May 13, 2003 - Former Florida governor Bob Graham would lose to Republican George W. Bush if the United States 2004 presidential election were held today, according to a poll by Schroth & Associates published in the Miami Herald. 52 per cent of respondents would vote for Bush, while 43 per cent favour Graham.

The results maintain a trend of post-war Bush popularity in the home states of several Democratic presidential hopefuls. Connecticut's Joe Lieberman and North Carolina's John Edwards also trail the current president in their respective states. Vice-president Dick Cheney announced last week that he will remain in the Republican ticket for the next election.

Graham has not lost an election in Florida, serving twice as governor and as a senator for 17 years. More than half of all Democrat supporters would vote for him in a primary election. Graham recently criticized the Bush administration for allegedly covering up intelligence information related to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Florida's 27 electoral votes decided the 2000 election, after weeks of recounts and court injunctions concluded in a 537-vote victory for Bush.
