Bush, Hillary Once Again Most Admired In U.S.
(Angus Reid - CPOD Global Scan) - George W. Bush is the most revered figure in the United States, according to a poll by Gallup released by CNN and USA Today. 23 per cent of respondents say the current president is the man they admire the most.
In American elections, candidates require 270 votes in the Electoral College to win the White House. On Nov. 2, Republican incumbent Bush earned a second term after securing 286 electoral votes from 31 states.
Former president Bill Clinton was second on the list with six per cent, followed by state secretary Colin Powell, former president and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Jimmy Carter, the reverend Billy Graham, Pope John Paul II, 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, former South African president Nelson Mandela, British prime minister Tony Blair and Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
New York senator and former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton topped the list of admired women with 13 per cent, followed by television host Oprah Winfrey, current first lady Laura Bush, national security advisor Condoleezza Rice, former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher, former first lady Barbara Bush, author Maya Angelou, former first lady Nancy Reagan, domestic icon Martha Stewart, former state secretary Madeleine Albright and Queen Elizabeth II.
