Angus Reid Global Monitor : Polls & Research
Bush Goes One Full Year Below 40% in U.S.
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Few Americans are satisfied with George W. Bush, according to a review of three recent public opinion polls. In a survey by Gallup released by USA Today, 34 per cent of respondents approve of the American president’s performance.
Bush’s rating stands at 33 per cent in a study by Bloomberg and the Los Angeles Times, and 30 per cent in a poll by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press.
Bush—a Republican—earned a second four-year term in the November 2004 presidential election. The U.S. president’s approval rating has not surpassed the 40 per cent mark in a national survey since December 2006.
On Dec. 4, Bush discussed his administration’s relationship with the Democratic-controlled Congress, saying, "I think we can get some things done. The Peruvian trade vote is one, there’s an example. Congress needs to get their differences sorted. (...) And it seems like to me that this Congress ought to be congratulating our military commanders and our troops. And one way to send a congratulatory message is to give them the funds they need—and now is the time to do it."
