Bush Approval Up Four Points In U.S.

January 14, 2005

(Angus Reid - CPOD Global Scan) - George W. Bush is regaining public support in the United States, according to a poll by Opinion Dynamics released by Fox News. 52 per cent of respondents approve of the president's performance, a four per cent increase since December.

In American elections, candidates require 270 votes in the Electoral College to win the White House. In November, Republican incumbent Bush earned a second term after securing 286 electoral votes from 31 states.

In an interview to be broadcast tonight on ABC, Bush pledged to resort to more tactful language in his second term as president. According to a transcript, Bush said the phrase "Bring it on"—used in July 2003 used in reference to insurgent attacks in Iraq—was "a little blunt." The president also denied rumours that his brother and current Florida governor Jeb Bush is considering a White House bid in 2008, saying, "I don't think he's interested in running."

Bush will be sworn in for his second four-year term on Jan. 20.
