Bush Approval Down Again

January 22, 2004

(CPOD) Jan. 22, 2004 - George W. Bush begins his re-election drive with low ratings, according to a poll by Zogby America. 49 per cent of respondents have a negative assessment of the president's performance, a four per cent drop since December 2003.

Bush's numbers were boosted after deposed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was captured by coalition soldiers in Adwar --near his hometown of Tikrit-- on Dec. 13, 2003. Hussein was found in a camouflaged, ventilated "spider hole."

On Jan. 20, Bush delivered his state of the union address. The president defended his rationale on the war on terrorism, and proposed a special grant program for job training in community colleges.

The American president, who will not be challenged by any member of the Republican Party for the nomination, has raised $120 million U.S. for his uncontested primary.
