Britons Want Out Of EU

December 27, 2003

(CPOD) Dec. 27, 2003 - Many residents of Great Britain reject the European Union (EU) and its joint currency, according to a poll by ICM Research. 67 per cent of respondents say the continental alliance is failing, and believe their country would be more prosperous and secure if the Euro is never adopted.

The joint currency has been used in 12 of the 15 EU countries since Jan. 1, 2002. Sweden, Denmark and Britain are the only current members that have not adopted the Euro.

Chancellor of the exchequer Gordon Brown published a report last year stating that Great Britain was not ready to adopt the European currency.

A continental summit designed to approve the new European Constitution failed on Dec. 14, after several leaders failed to agree on a controversial vote allocation system.
