British Residents Reject Euro
(CPOD) May 7, 2003 - British residents are against the adoption of the Euro, according to a poll by Populus published in the Times. 32 per cent of respondents say the United Kingdom should never adopt the European currency.
The Euro has been used in 12 of the 15 European Union (EU) countries since Jan. 1, 2002. Sweden, Denmark and Britain are the only current EU members that have not adopted the currency. The British government will publish a report on the Euro in early June. A positive forecast could pave the way for a nationwide referendum.
Only 10 per cent of respondents say the European currency should be adopted immediately, and 21 per cent would wait for the Government's report to see if the country's economic conditions are right for the switch.
