Blair Loses, Brown Ties Tories In UK

(CPOD) May 11, 2004 - The success of the ruling Labour party in Britain's next general election appears to be connected to the political organization's leader, according to a poll by YouGov published in the Mail on Sunday.

If prime minister Tony Blair were to remain as Labour's leader for the next ballot, 40 per cent of respondents would vote for the opposition Conservatives, a four per cent lead over the ruling party.

If current chancellor of the exchequer Gordon Brown were chosen as Labour's leader instead of Blair, the ruling party would tie the Tories at 39 per cent in a federal vote.

The Liberal Democrats are third in both surveys, with 18 and 16 per cent respectively. Britain must renew the House of Commons by June 2006.
