Blair “A Liability” For Labour In Britain

(CPOD) Jun. 2, 2004 - Many Britons think Tony Blair could harm the ruling Labour party in the next general election, according to a poll by YouGov published in the Daily Telegraph. 51 per cent of respondents consider the prime minister as a "liability" for Labour, while 35 per cent regard him an "asset."

Chancellor of the exchequer Gordon Brown has been mentioned as Blair's possible successor as the top Labour policy-maker. 59 per cent of respondents see Brown as an "asset" to the ruling political organization.

Two high-profile Labour politicians—former leader Neil Kinnock and former chancellor of the exchequer Denis Healey—recently suggested that Blair should allow someone else to command the party.

Britain must renew the House of Commons by June 2006.
